Seeing the world by bike beats seeing the world by bus, as bus tours are often ruined by engine exhaust, construction detours, and guides who deliver facts by honking them in Morse code. Enjoy the calm of a two-wheeled trek with today’s Groupon to the History Mystery Bike Tour, hosted by the Beverly Area Planning Association on Sunday, October 9, from noon to 5 p.m. Tours depart from the Ridge Historical Society headquarters on South Seeley Avenue. The tour lasts approximately three hours, with a two-hour street festival afterward. All participants must provide their own bicycles and helmets. Choose between the following options:
- For $7, you get an individual pass (a $15 value).
- For $20, you get a family pass (a $40 value) valid for two adults and up to five children younger than 16.
Clues hidden outside historic homes and institutions await two-wheeled treasure hunters as they attempt to solve the mysteries that lurk beneath the surface of Beverly and Morgan Park neighborhoods. As soon as all members manage to cram helmets over their deerstalker hats, groups depart on three-hour sleuthing expeditions that combine the fun and healthy exercise of biking with strenuous mental gymnastics. All participants must keep a weather eye on the horizon if they are to solve the mystery before sunset, as evidence lies in even the most inconspicuous nooks and crannies—from architectural details on buildings to the snow-gray whiskers of the postmaster’s moustache.
Once groups have successfully solved the historical-mystery puzzle, participants will have a chance to piece the clues together to form a harmonious solution. Everyone who solves the clues correctly will be eligible to win a bicycle donated by Beverly Bike and Ski, whereas those stumped by the mystery can pedal their sorrows away or rust their bicycle's breaks with their tears during the post-hunt street festival.
