Jazz, like professional wrestling, thrives on unpredictability, dazzling feats of showmanship, and ladder matches with saxophones suspended 20 feet in the air. Body-slam ears with the sweet strains of music with today's Groupon, good for a ticket to a Blue Note Jazz Festival concert or a Sunday Jazz Bruch at the Blue Note. Click here for shows and dates.
Since 1981, Blue Note has tangled trumpets and tickled ivories with some of the biggest names in jazz, including Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, and Chick Corea. In honor of its 30th year of making audience members' ears smile, Blue Note will be hosting a citywide jazz festival. Throughout the month of June, patrons can catch acts including Lee Konitz and Jon Hendricks at the legendary Blue Note or Johnny Winter, Diane Schuur, and The Fabulous Thunderbirds as they take the main stage at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill. Highline Ballroom will also open its doors to musicians such as Brian Wilson, Ron Carter and Travis Sullivan's Bjorkestra as they wring sixteenth notes from their guitars, pianos, and electric kazoos. Attend the Sunday Jazz brunch, which includes a meal and drink, on Sundays between June 5 and August 28 at 12:30 p.m. or 2:30 p.m. and eat in 5/4 time signature to intricate arrangements by artists such as Mark Rapp: The Song Project, The Harry Allen New York Quartet, and Frank Kimbrough Trio at Blue Note. Seating is first come, first served.
