History is like Frankenstein's monster—all it takes to make it come alive is the right education, a large body of artifacts exhumed from the earth, and an electrical storm. Learn from the past with today's Groupon: for $17, you get a one-year Pioneer Family membership to Buffalo Gap Historic Village in Buffalo Gap (a $35 value). This Groupon is valid for new members only.
At Buffalo Gap Historic Village, wide-eyed visitors find themselves whisked back in time to turn-of-the-century Texas with a wealth of relics and historical landmarks dating back to the late 1800s. Complimentary guided-tour recordings accompany visitors as they explore elderly edifices, such as the home of Abilene’s first marshal, the two-room Cottonwood School, and the Taylor County Courthouse and Jail. Inside the agriculturally themed Wagon Barn are an antique carriage and a 1919 Model T hack, and the World War II-era doctor's office contains a collection of archaic medical instruments, inspiring visitors to compose heartfelt letters of appreciation to their anesthesiologists. Or peruse other turn-of-the-century relics, including a large Indian artifact and gun collection, a Western Cottage organ, and a framed copy of a time-traveling Michael J. Fox’s signature.
Not unlike a bag of french fries with an onion ring at the bottom, a Buffalo Gap Historic Village Pioneer Family membership includes pleasing benefits. All members of the household are entitled to one year of unlimited visits to the village (normally free for children 5 and younger, $4 for children ages 6 to 16, and $7 for people 17 and older for each visit). Members also receive one year of free admission to the Abilene Zoo, free or reduced admission to special events, discounts at the Texas History Store, and more.
