You don't need to bring anything but an appetite to BYOB Rocks. The name isn't an invitation to haul a six pack along—it stands for "Birmingham's Years of Bands." The burger joint's sound system exclusively plays music by local bands, from the latest LPs to nostalgia-inducing local gems from 40 years back. This commitment to the local music scene should come as no surprise. Owner Jason Marchant spent some time in a band that signed to Atlantic Records. Now, he shines the spotlight on other local acts aspiring to the rock 'n' roll dream of touring the world and getting a Ben and Jerry's flavor named after them.
But despite the musical focus, the food is still the headlining act. BYOB's burgers range from simple classics to outright behemoths such as the double mastodon burger, a towering sandwich loaded with sirloin patties, cheddar, chili, fried onion rings, jalapeño peppers, and applewood-smoked bacon. Burgers aren't the only draw, though. The restaurant also features buffalo chicken tenders, arugula and goat cheese salads, and an array of liquors displayed behind the bar inside hollowed out guitar amplifier cabinets.
