As December 23, 2012, approaches, many Americans eagerly await the moment when Hades will emerge from the underworld to recklessly devour raw egg. Until then, get access to the beyond with today's Groupon: for $28, you get four tickets to the Nightmares Around Elm Street tour, a candlelit walking tour from Carolina History & Haunts (up to a $60 value).
The Nightmares Around Elm Street tour sends chills down the spines of thrill-seekers as they traverse Greensboro's most haunted haunts. During the approximately 90-minute tour, a street- and story-wise guide in period costume leads groups of ghost-hunters through Elm Street's historical district by flickering lantern light, telling tales of the dearly departed who never quite departed. The group eventually winds its way to Blandwood Mansion, one of the oldest houses in Greensboro still on its original foundations; enter to hear about the eerie footsteps on the second floor and the spookily high heating bill.
Tours meet in front of the Melvin Municipal building every Friday and Saturday night, as well as on full moons. Reservations are required, so call ahead to reserve your spot and plan on arriving 15 minutes before the tour's scheduled start time. Tours run rain or shine, so bring a slicker in case of wet weather or projectile ectoplasm.

Carolina History & Haunts partners with local businesses to give tour goers discounts on accommodations and food, and large groups are eligible for discounted pricing and private tours.
