Good variety of foods and larger than expected portion sizes. Would have liked a little more background about the West Loop area but as it's a growing neighborhood, maybe there isn't much else to say about it.

What You'll Get

Lingering too long at a single restaurant results in legs falling asleep, food going cold, and the maître d' building a nest from patrons' belongings. Dodge stagnant dining with today’s Groupon for a walking culinary tour from Chicago Food Planet. Choose between the following options:

  • For $22, you get one adult ticket to the three-hour Near North food tour (a $45 value). Tours depart daily at 11 a.m. from March through November, and meet near Rush & Division Streets.
  • For $22, you get one adult ticket to the three-hour Bucktown & Wicker Park food tour (a $45 value). Tours depart at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday–Saturday from April through November, and meet near North, Milwaukee, and Damen Avenues.

The exact meeting and ending locations for both tours will be provided upon ticket purchase.

Chicago Food Planet's knowledgeable tour guides dispense wisdom on local history, culture, and architecture while introducing hungry pedestrians to a carefully drafted roster of neighborhood restaurants. Over the course of 1.5 miles and innumerable bites, the Near North jaunt steers up to 16 walkers through seven restaurants in the Gold Coast, Old Town, and Lincoln Park neighborhoods. Scents of Polish- and European-style baked goods waft through the air at Delightful Pastries, and the sandwich crafters at Ashkenaz Deli sate hunger with traditional Jewish fare. At The Fudge Pot, sweet teeth sink into chocolaty confections more decadent than gold-plated helipads.

Alternatively, travelers can trek through 1.3 miles of art-filled avenues in Bucktown and Wicker Park to visit six eclectic eateries. Groups of up to 14 learn about Chicago-style franks and which mustards can be spread on slippers to keep a dog from shredding them at George's Hot Dogs before meandering to acclaimed pastry and dessert spot Hot Chocolate. As participants nosh on Middle Eastern cuisine at Sultan's Market, guides' educational tidbits bolster tour-goers knowledge of the Windy City's storied past. All age groups and fitness levels are welcome, and both treks include at least two resting locations for weary feet and jaw muscles.
