CHIRP Record Fair
For 14 years running, the CHIRP Record Fair has invited vinyl enthusiasts and music lovers to spend an entire day digging through crates in order to find the records, CDs, DVDs, and posters missing from their collections. As in recent years, the fair will fill the interior of Plumbers Hall, and visitors can fuel their treasure hunting with pours from Dark Matter Coffee, food from Moxee, a variety of beers, and bob their heads to a soundtrack provided by CHIRP’s DJs.
Broadcasting daily from its studio in Chicago’s North Center neighborhood, CHIRP is the type of radio station you might get if your super-hip, music-loving friend had a radio station. The non-profit is volunteer-driven, attracting an on-air staff of passionate music fans who dig deep to discover lost tracks, forgotten classics, and tunes from really good bands that you might not have heard of, but will certainly want to hear again. And because the station doesn't conform to a specific genre or era of music, listeners won't ever get sick of hearing the same old song played over and over.
In addition to filling the airwaves with fresh beats, CHIRP also organizes a number of music-focused events throughout the year, including live shows with local artists and an annual record fair.
