Q&A with Master Doug Cook, Owner and Head Instructor
Exercise is challenging, and people frequently give up on their fitness routines. How do you keep clients motivated?
We offer a comprehensive curriculum that is challenging for students. In the martial arts system, people advance through the ranks and when a rank is achieved, they move on and learn new techniques. Our traditional approach emphasizes self-defense so students are learning skills that can help them with confidence and focus. We work on self-enrichment through meditation and internal energy development.
Besides working out, what else can clients do to spend their time at your facility?
Meditation, Qigong exercises, and yoga.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
At the core of taekwondo training is a creed or code of ethics. This is called the five tenets of taekwondo, which are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit. Not only do we try to instill these virtues in our students but we as a martial arts academy try to run our business with these words in mind. We seek to train the whole person: body, mind, and spirit.
