$59 for The Art of Tamale Making Floating Cooking Class on Yacht Barkissimo in Emeryville ($150 Value)
This culinary adventure takes place aboard Yacht Barkissimo, a former restaurant that currently resides at the Emeryville Marina as a floating bed and breakfast. The three-hour course focuses on a variety of masa-wrapped eats hailing from the state of Jalisco, Mexico, and includes info on preparation and a brief history of the region. Students split up into groups to craft tamales stuffed with beef, chicken, peppers, strawberries, or pineapple. While their creations are cooking, the lesson continues with the crafting of tejuino cocktails. The tequila-based beverage is made from the same masa used in tamales and is served with lemon, salt, and chili powder on the rim of the glass. Courses conclude with a feast of the delicacies made in class.

About Conectando Latinos Social Club
Conectando Latinos Social Club organizes events in the Bay Area to celebrate and bring awareness to Latino culture. Their events are open to professionals age 25 and up and cultivate a social atmosphere with organized ice breakers for singles, couples, and frozen explorers recently returned from the Arctic. Some of their affairs include courses on preparing Latin cuisine, which are usually supplemented by traditional cocktails and group dining. Dance classes celebrate heritage with movement, and weekend getaways via international cruises give members a firsthand glance at the lands where these traditions were born.
