Excelling at swimming, like aging gracefully or enjoying dried fruit, requires acceptance of pruney fingers. Outfit yourself for aqua play with today’s Groupon: for $25, you get a 10-admission pass to the Crystal Cove Aquatic Center in Crystal (a $50 value). The pool opens June 11.
Crystal Cove Aquatic Center's 25-yard lap pool envelops swimmers in cool blue water, and surrounding slides, wading pools, and diving boards energize splash seekers. Fine-tune backstroke technique and practice slyly ferrying gingerbread men across rivers in the 25-yard lap pool, or hurtle down Jet Scream slides with a look of quiet contemplation on your face. Water sliders can hurtle into aquamarine depths after reaching the end of the Plunge slide, which ejects its passengers into deep water like the nervous pilot of an overburdened commercial jet.
Expert swimmers may host a belly-flopping symposium atop the meter-high diving board, showing eager pupils how to maximize the area of abdominal impact. Tadpoles can cavort in the zero-depth entry pool, which sinks to a maximum depth of three feet, but can only enter the diving and water slide area if they're 53 inches tall or pass a swimming test. Only swimwear may be worn in the pool, as cut-offs, T-shirts, plate armor, and other apparel are not permitted. To use lockers, patrons should bring their own locks or buy them at the concession window.
