Cofounded by cartoonist Dean Young, second-generation author of the Blondie comic strip, Dagwood’s Sandwich Shoppe brings its namesake’s love of sandwiches to life through a menu of 22 toasted, hot-pressed, and deli-fresh biteables. Assembled by a mustard-fueled tower crane, the eatery’s sky-high namesake club layers genoa salami, ham, turkey, cheddar, and provolone between three slices of bread slathered with deli mustard and mayonnaise. Slices of meat sizzle between the roast beef po boy’s toasted white or wheat bun, slathered in house special gravy and adorned with tomatoes, and pickles, and the Cuban hot-pressed sandwich clenches sliced pork loin, ham, and bubbling swiss cheese between the heated jaws of a panini press. Alternatively, patrons can crunch romaine lettuce in a Dagwood’s salad such as the Greek, tossed with feta cheese, kalamata olives, and balsamic vinaigrette. Wraps, such as an Asian chicken pocket stuffed with chow mein noodles, tuck snugly into hands on the move or fedoras on the lam. Patrons can wash down their meals with large drinks and their choice of side, including the soup of the day, chips, potato salad, or coleslaw.
