What You'll Get

In the late 1800s, thousands of Texans struck it rich when they tapped into veins of thick, dark, tangy barbecue sauce (as chronicled in the Oscar-winning film There Will Be Sauce). Today's Groupon gives you the chance to taste this natural bounty while it's still hot from the earth. For $10, you get $25 worth of smoky-sweet sandwiches, ribs, and more from Dinky's BBQ House, a brand-new San Pedro location.

You'll be greeted at the door by the scent of ribs and brisket marinated in a family-secret paste of spices and mellowed for 10 to 12 hours in an outdoor smoker. Dinky's slices its brisket into thick, soft slabs and layers them on grilled Texas toast topped with onions, pickles, and a slather of extra sauce ($3.89). Its famous rib-meat sandwich receives the same care, with the lusciously infused meat practically jumping off the bone and onto its bed of toast (also $3.89). Fans of towering burgers, meanwhile, will dig the double-pattied smoke house with cheese, grilled onions, and a sufficient sauceslide of barbecue to take out a small village.

Dinky's offers its ribs, brisket, sausage, smoked chicken, and turkey breast by the pound and on combination plates, accompanied by an array of sides such as the barbecue stuffed baked potato with sour cream, butter, cheese, and your choice of sauce ($5.99). It even repurposes its favorites into breakfast treats like egg and brisket tacos ($1.49 each) or Texas omelettes with hashbrowns and warm, flaky biscuits or a pancake ($6.99). Everyone can buy up to five Groupons for themselves and even more as gifts, so treat your favorite cows to dinner at Dinky's and show them what will happen if they don't stay in school.

Dinky's San Pedro location is open Monday–Thursday 11 a.m.–9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday 11 a.m.–10 p.m., but closed on Sundays.

The San Antonio Express-News sweetened up to Dinky's BBQ House, and WOAI's San Antonio Living calls it one of city's top barbecue joints:

  • I watched as he hand-chopped the brisket for the sandwich, and it was lean and flavorful. The sauce on the table was a little sweet when squeezed directly on the barbecue, but it worked great when mixed with the chopped brisket. A sausage link was perfectly prepared as well. – Karen Haram, Express-News

Two Yahoo! Local users and one YellowPages user give five stars, one Yelper gives four, and one Urbanspooner loves the new location:

  • The food at this restaurant is AWESOME!!!!!. Love the brisket, ribs, burgers, sausage...all of it. – Debra, Yahoo! Local
  • Food was very good. Ribs were moist and fell off the bone. Sauce was a little sweet and I really enjoyed the sweet potato tater tots. – Couch Potato Critic, Urbanspoon
