About Earl of Sandwich

The first written record of the word "sandwich" as we know it appeared in 1762, apparently after gaining popularity among peers of John Montagu, Earl of Sandwich. The aristocrat had a habit of asking for his meat between two pieces of bread so that he could continue to play cards unencumbered by a fork and knife. Soon, others began to order "the same as Sandwich!" Thus, a beloved lunchtime meal was born.

Nowadays, Earl of Sandwich—the restaurant, that is—continues the tradition by specializing in his creation. Among the signature hot sandwiches are the fresh Chipotle Chicken Avocado and the Original 1762, with roast Angus beef, cheddar, and horseradish sauce. Earl of Sandwich also folds savory ingredients into hand-crafted wraps and sprinkles them atop Freshly Tossed Greens salads. Complete your meal with sides like chips, soup, and potato salad.
