Fortel's packs its menu with salads, pizza, pastas, and sandwiches made with fresh ingredients. Sate rumbling tummies with a starter with an order of beer-battered mushrooms ($4.99), prepping the appetite for a fireball flower. Circle-centric diners can feast on Fortel's pizzas, built on its classic crust and rolled thin out of dough made fresh each day. Pies range from 10-inch smalls ($8.99+) to the 16-inch family style ($15.49+), cheesed and sauced with your choice of seven sauce selections, including the specialty sweet and spicy tomato sauce made at Fortel's, and piled with flavor-bombs from a list of 36 available toppings. For those who don't want their meal served in squares, Fortel's also serves an array of salads and sandwiches, including a spicy shrimp po' boy and a classic meatball sub ($7.99 each).

Fortel's Pizza Den

Fortel's Pizza Den was founded more than 30 years ago by pizza enthusiast Bob Fortel, giving the restaurant plenty of time to develop a compelling formula for creating its hand-tossed pies. It starts with the crust: the dough is made fresh daily, and—since eating pizza, like playing Battleship against yourself, shouldn't involve too many tough decisions—it's formed into a single, medium-thin thickness. Chefs then slather this crispy foundation in one of seven sauces, including pesto, gravy, or Bob Fortel's original sweet-and-spicy tomato sauce. Topping choices number in the dozens, ranging from sweet chicken sausage and eggplant to corned beef and sauerkraut. While waiting for their pizza masterpieces to arrive, diners nibble on beer-battered mushrooms, toasted ravioli, and other appetizers.
