General's Ridge Golf Course
From the tip of the 3rd, players at General's Ridge Golf Course must drive over wild plants and a stream just to get to the fairway. It's a 260-yard shot, and even those who manage the challenge perfectly still have to face a sharp dogleg to the left. The challenge isn't easy, but the sights surrounding it (and the history) make it all worthwhile.
Each hole on this 6,651-yard, Jerry Slack–designed championship course is nestled amid stands of oak, beech, and poplar trees, while the elevation changes evoke the mountains of North Carolina. But General's Ridge is firmly rooted in Northern Virginia—not just geographically, but historically as well. The course's name comes from the fact that the Civil War's Bull Run conflict happened in the area. It's reported, even, that troops camped and practiced their short game nearby where the modern-day 4th is located.
