More than 25 acts from across New York and the nation step into the spotlight at the Fall Back Comedy Fest, a five-day showcase of live improv, sketch, and standup comedy. The schedule kicks off on Wednesday with a pair of 90-minute Harold improv shows in which three teams gather fuel for their joke-powered motors by petitioning audience members for suggestions. Thursday’s Rochester showcase highlights local troupes with a screwball set from 12-year improv veterans Nuts & Bolts and a riotous puppetry show courtesy of The Village Idiots. Feature shows on Friday continue in the same comic vein, with long-form improv from acts such as Potential Boyfriends, who courteously pull out chairs for female audience members before their set. Canadian Adrian Sawyer uses sharpened observational humor and jokes pulled from the flap of a magical whoopee cushion to induce raw laughs during Saturday’s standup showcase.
Late-night relief from the cavalcade of chuckles and spinning bow ties comes courtesy of Friday and Saturday’s after-parties at Johnny’s Irish Pub. Guests can continue their merrymaking with concessions mid- and post-show from artisan eatery Chocolate & Vines.
