What You’ll Do
They don’t have thorns—and they’ll never wilt or dry out—but in about every other way, the roses that welcome guests into Griva Patel’s studio look just like the real thing. During this workshop, Griva shows you step-by-step how to transform delicate crepe paper into a dozen red paper roses ideal to gift for Valentine’s Day, a birthday, or an anniversary.
Snip Paper into Petals
Using Griva’s petal outlines, you’ll cut out red rose petals from crepe paper.
Make Lifelike Roses
Griva instructs on how to sculpt those petals into lifelike roses. You will have about 90 minutes to construct roses of your own.
Bouquet Prep 101
For the finale, you learn to arrange your paper roses into a professional-looking bouquet.
Take the Crafting Home
Griva provides enough materials for a dozen roses, though you may not have time to finish all of them during the actual workshop. No worries; Griva makes sure everyone has the knowledge and tools to finish their bouquets at home.
Creator of Cute Little Flowers
Atlanta’s Maker Faire of 2014 marked a turning point in the life of Griva Patel. On the weekend of October 4, the artist arrived there with her handmade flowers, headbands, pens—and no idea what to expect. What she found was an overwhelmingly favorable response to her work, which shouldn’t have come as too much of a surprise. After all, Griva first learned to make cloth flowers in the fifth grade.
