Voted Best Children’s Theater in 2010 by the Phoenix New Times, the Childsplay professional theater company delights young audiences and families with awe-inspiring, imaginative productions. Based on the beloved children’s books by Bernard Waber, Lyle the Crocodile treats holiday season show-goers to the exploits of the titular reptile and the family who offers him a place to live, keeping him safe and violating countless exotic-animal statues. The loveable croc sings, skates, and tap-dances his way through New York City, warming hearts and tugging expressionless lips into vibrant smiles with his lighthearted antics. The show is geared toward those four years and older, making it a perfect holiday outing for stage-loving young’uns and seven-month-old puppies.
This production finds its home at the Tempe Center for the Arts, which comes fully stocked with magnificent views of Tempe Town Lake and the Papago Mountains. In addition, visitors will find a multitude of restaurants and shopping close by in the Mill Avenue District, as well as a new candy store for rewarding well-behaved children and refueling sugar-powered SUVs.
