Shipwreck! Pirates & Treasure
Shipwreck! Pirates & Treasure sends visitors plummeting to the ocean floor. They're in good company: as they move through the exhibit, they follow the discoveries of explorers throughout history who have gone looking for the clues, stories, and valuable artifacts left behind when a ship sinks. More than 500 of the latter fill the exhibit, including striking gold and silver pieces. In their subaquatic trip through time, visitors learn many different secrets of the deep—from the piratical exploits of Blackbeard and Captain Kidd all the way up to the robotic arms explorers use today to uncover sunken treasure and tickle passing fish. While wandering halls decorated to resemble the gloomy belly of a shipwreck, guests can further experience the chills of a doomed crew by stopping into the Shipwreck Theater and braving simulated gale-force winds in an interactive hurricane exhibit.
Discovery Times Square
Unlike more traditional museums, Discovery Times Square does much more than simply display artifacts. The space, located in the building once occupied by The New York Times printing presses, encourages visitors to learn through interactive, sensory exhibits. Past shows have taken guests inside the Titanic’s final wreck site, Da Vinci’s ingenious inventions, and the vast collection of riches and bandages owned by King Tut. More than a museum, DTS has featured exhibitions of unparalleled breadth, including Pompeii: The Exhibit, Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition, Terracotta Warriors: Defenders of China’s First Emperor, The Art of the Brick, Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N., and most recently, The Hunger Games: The Exhibition.
