I ordered the Monday special which was smoked brisket and my wife ordered the chicken fried chicken. The brisket was tender, moist and beautifully smoked but could have been portioned a little bit better, I only received four thin slices of brisket.
The chicken fried chicken was moist, tender, perfectly breaded and very well portioned. All selected sides were very good.
Good food and nice folks. Seems it rains each time I go there; but folks flock in at lunch time, no matter the weather. I've not come across a BBQ item I didn't like and the sides are tasty, too. If they were located closer to home, I'd be in trouble!
If you have recently moved to Texas, I'm sure you are starting to adapt. In Texas they grill and the barbecue. Two totally different things.
At Green Mesquite they are smoking the good stuff. Prove it to your
Texas has lots of Barbeque snobs. I just know what I like. The Green Mesquite is #2, and it's right here in Round Rock. If you have never been, you have been missing out. The food is GREAT. The servers are kind, helpful, and focused the their customers.

About Green Mesquite BBQ & More
What's in a name? When it comes to Green Mesquite BBQ & More, pretty much everything. As one of its gift-shop T-shirts will tell you, the restaurant has been "horrifying vegetarians since 1988," and that enduring success can largely be attributed to what's inside the barbecue pit: log after log of green mesquite wood.
Owner Tom Davis opts for that particular fresh-cut variety because of its slow-burning property, and because it gives meat a bold and smoky flavor. Davis and his team cook everything from beef and pork to chicken and turkey over the wood. They also make their own barbecue sauce and a signature rub for their baby back ribs, which Diners, Drive-Ins, and Diveshost Guy Fieri called "awesome."
It's not just the smoked meats that distinguish Green Mesquite's three Austin-area locations. It's also that the restaurants double as venues for live music—specifically of the bluegrass and country variety.
