With the exceptions of the Slurpee cannon and the ice-plated hot-air balloon, man's attempts to harness the power of ice have always ended in a filthy puddle of regret. Today's Groupon returns natural pallor to your frostbitten dreams: for $9, you get admission to ICEBAR Orlando and the Fire Lounge ($16) as well as a drink refill ($6).
ICEBAR uses 50 tons of ice to form the walls, bar, and furniture. Once inside, you'll be adorned with ICEBAR's signature cape and gloves to keep your hands from forming frozen bonds to glasses fashioned from ice. The club's consistent 27-degrees Fahrenheit temperature sustains a menagerie of weird and wondrous ice sculptures that will warm even the most freezer burnt of hearts. Snow misers and flakes alike can sit atop the ice throne while sipping chilled vodka purchased at the transparent bar. To keep your insides from frosting over during the 45-minute retreat from Orlando's unrelenting sun, use a drink refill before heading to the Fire Lounge to warm up with full bar service.
The Fire Lounge provides the Yin to the ICEBAR's Yang--once inside, a healing warmth revives chilled corpi with its balmy climate and live entertainment pumped into the air by popular DJs. Unleash the fun-loving ice Viking encased deep inside your soul with a cocktail in the Nordic-themed environs or out on the steamy dance floor. The ICEBAR offers six entry times Sunday-Thursday, starting at 7:15 p.m. and nine times on Friday and Saturday.
The Travel Channel lists ICEBAR Orlando as one of the world's coolest bars, and while they are mixed on their experience Yelpers still give it a three star average and Citysearchers give it a four star average:
- The bartender told stories and jokes, the music was great, the other guests having fun. We warmed up in the outside bar, the fire bar, and had the best margarita in our lives. – Laila T, Citysearch
- If you're looking for a unique experience and a nice laid back time then you should try this place. – Kori M., Yelp
Filled with 70 tons of carved ice and most recently inspired by Ernest Shackleton's failed Antarctic expedition, Icebar's 22-degree, bacchanalian winterscape earned itself a feature in Frommer's and a spot on the Travel Channel's list of The World's Coolest Bars. After bundling up with gloves and jackets or in rentable faux fur coats, guests can spend an unlimited amount of time touring the room's collection of frozen sculptures, floes, and sled-dog huts, raising toasts to their favorites with glasses made entirely out of ice. Frozen faux-fur lined stools line the bar, where mixologists pour frosty cocktails and root around for two identical snowflakes.
The adjacent Fire Lounge allows visitors to warm up afterward by snagging a drink from the full-service bar or bobbing their heads to the mixes of Orlando's best DJs. The pulsing sound system helps to get blood flowing again while lasers and strobe lights scan the room for any escaped snowglobes.
