With the advent of eating season approaching, preemptively curb your guilt over holiday crapulence with today's Groupon for fitness bliss. For $39, you'll get four weeks of unlimited boot-camp fitness classes and more at Indianapolis Downtown Boot Camp, a $200 value. As a member of the elite boot-camp group known as the Alpha Squad, you can take advantage of as many boot-camp classes as you want, morning and night, during your four-week cycle. Classes are offered on weekdays in the mornings at 8 a.m. and multiple times in the evenings. You'll have 60 opportunities to attend during your unlimited four-week cycle. Plus, you'll get friendly email and text reminders of your workout schedule to keep you on your toes and meeting your goals, keeping you from getting sucked into a molasses of Internet-lazy.
Take a tip from the X-Men's Danger Room and reap the benefits of group training. Working out with others motivates you to push yourself harder, helps you stick to a regimen, and gives you the opportunity to bond with new friends over tales of general sweatiness. At Indianapolis Downtown Boot Camp, the small class sizes and individual attention will give you the extra motivational push you need to reach your goals.
Each class is led by instructors Todd Beattie and Jason Haas, both certified personal trainers with a boatload of other certifications: Pilates, CPR, and Jujitsu, as well as a stint in the US Navy (no word on whether they prevented any Under Sieges). While one instructor leads your exercises, the other rotates through the small group to give you personal encouragement and one-on-one attention. With two sets of eagle eyes, your instructors will correct sloppy form to ensure that you safely get the most out of every movement, maintaining their perfect record of zero accidental inside-outings.
In addition to your classes, you can go on any of Indiana Downtown Boot Camp's Sunday excursions (during your four-week cycle) at no extra cost. Sunday excursions, such as rock climbing, hiking, and camping, are offered once or twice a month. Though Indiana Downtown Boot Camp usually meets in a variety of locations to take advantage of good weather and invigorate the routine, all winter sessions keep you safe from the elements indoors at the Marott Apartments on Meridian Street and Fall Creek Parkway.
Make your New Year's resolution now and get ahead of the endless holiday parade of cookies, cakes, and sedentary visits to grandma.
Though most boot campers are busy expending all their newfound energy, a couple of Yelpers stopped jumping rope to give Indianapolis Downtown Boot Camp five stars:
- All the personal attention you can get in the way of a personal fitness trainer without the high expense! – Debbie S.
- I am working out to my full potential, at my pace, and I couldn't be happier. Even better is the fact that Todd is incredibly knowledgeable and is continually trying new things with us. – Amy D.
Letters from Boot Camp
Boot camps are fitness regimens designed to train and condition your physique; they are not actual sleep-away camps for fashion-conscious children to learn to craft and model boots, a mistake unfortunately made by the parents of 8-year-old Henry Duggins, who dropped him and his suitcase off at a boot camp last week, before leaving on their three-week cruise. Here’s a letter Henry wrote them for when they get back.
- Dear Mom and Dad: Boot camp is confusing. There are no boots here, and everyone is always exercizing [sic]. They are very strong. Every day, we get up early to do exercizes [sic] and it is hard but fun. When people ask me where my parents are, I tell them about your boat cruise and they look conserned [sic]. There are no beds here also and at night I sleep on a gym mat. I think I might hate you. Love, Henry.

Fire Eye Fitness
Certified personal trainer Todd Beattie has worked to save lives as a US Navy search-and-rescue swimmer, spends his spare time competing in Ironman triathlons, and continues to train in a variety of martial arts that he's been doing for 22 years. The lifetime fitness guru channels each of these experiences into his dynamic aerobic and plyometric workouts, which marry functional fitness with techniques garnered from his time in the martial arts and military. Todd and his dutiful instructors, both of whom are black belts, help clients shape up during customized, one-on-one personal training and 20 weekly fitness classes. They motivate small groups of fitness-seekers with boot camps and boxing sessions while keeping a watchful eye to ensure students don't overexert their muscles. These encouraging trainers also help women to protect themselves through self-defense seminars, during which they teach participants how to identify, avoid, and escape from suspicious people, attackers, and door-to-door used-car salesmen.
To further assist clients in reaching their fitness goals, Fire Eye Fitness posts weekly meal plans complete with online calorie counts that keep diets on track and strengthen wills against guilt trips from jilted chocolate cakes. Every month, the generous instructors donate a portion their profits to a rotating roster of charities.
