What You'll Get

Getting out of the house is often hampered by the fact that most houses are located inside a bigger and fancier house. Step outside of the house outside of your house with today's Groupon to Indy’s Irish Festival September 16–18 in Military Park. Children under 13 get free admission to the festival all weekend, and guests who show before 5:30 p.m. on Friday gain admission for free that night. Choose between the following options:

• For $20, you get two weekend entrance passes, good for all three days of the festival (up to a $48 value).
• For $40, you get four weekend entrance passes, good for all three days of the festival (up to a $96 value).

The 16th annual Indy’s Irish Fest immerses revelers in a three-day celebration of Irish culture, music and food, attracting crowds large enough to make it one of the city’s best-attended events, according to Hello Indianapolis. Families can observe Irish-themed activities such as a sheep-herding demonstration and a toast contest, in which competitors orate 60-second tributes to Irish subjects, such as William Butler Yeats’ rhinestone-studded sunglasses. A lineup of more than 20 musicians croon, stomp, and fiddle on four different stages, accompanied by the flighty footwork of The Irish Dancers of Indianapolis. Meanwhile, kilted athletes wrangle for prizes such as “Bonniest Knees” in the 2011 Kilted Mile footrace, and teams of stick-brandishing hurlers compete in an ancient Celtic sport invented to settle intertribal disputes over who ate the last Lucky Charms.

Local businesses, such as Murphy’s Steak House and the Claddagh Irish Pub, furnish guests with hearty Irish-American food and imported and domestic beers. Younger revelers can bounce and play in the children’s area, and style-conscious lads and lasses can search the Irish Market for Celtic fashions, handcrafted jewelry, and Ulysses-themed lunchboxes.
