Beer BBQ Bacon Showdown

The Garden State has long been admired for its famous resorts, beautiful beaches, and luscious Springsteens. However, it’s never received its dues for its bounteous crops of barbecue and brews. That is, until now. This November, the Beer BBQ Bacon Showdown will take to Waterloo Village Concert Field to exalt the state’s top grub and suds. In this inaugural edition of an eventual autumn classic, local breweries (including Angry Erik, Beach Haus, and Bolero Snort Brewery) each serve up four styles of beers born inside the state lines.

Of course, these beers are born to run with the festivals’s other focus: barbecue. Restaurants and food trucks, such as Wharton’s Hot Rod’s BBQ and Kimchi Smoke Barbecue out of Hackensack and the award-winning Texas Smoke Barbecue (don’t worry, they’re from Jefferson), serve up their best bacon, brisket, ribs, chicken, and more, all to a soundtrack of live music. A panel of celebrity judges (including owner Deborah Smith and the mind behind The Food Lovers’ Guide to New Jersey) ends the showdown by awarding the best of the best, but don’t worry; the audience get to submit its own sauce-stained ballots to award People’s Choice nods for best BBQ and best beer.

"Old but trying"
Our ordination event was held here. In the U.K. we have "jobsworths" as in "it's more than my job's worth to let you in even a little early. People were kept waiting to get in for no apparent reason. A venerable hall but lots of hi-tech.

Location, location and location. It is in a perfect spot to get to. Located in Westchester, where I grew up and currently resided.

"A functional but aging venue"
Reasonable sight lines but the building is old and only average in all aspects. Limited parking, food service, restrooms, etc. The county really needs to upgrade this operation but no major rehab appears planned. Used for various smaller events like the circus, various expos, graduations a... Read More
