Ice cream, like an ice trophy, requires careful assembly and can make your head hurt if you try to fit too much of it in your mouth at once. Score chilly treats with today's Groupon: for $5, you get $10 worth of ice cream and more at Lofty Pursuits, located in Market Square.
With its recent addition of an authentic soda fountain, Lofty Pursuits flings frozen retro treats at hungry mouths using the same techniques, equipment, and glassware wielded by neighborhood soda jerks in the 1940s. In addition to being loaded with traditional lactose luxuries such as sundaes, shakes, scoops, and Brooklyn-style egg creams, the multipaged menu offers a sweet retreat to vegans, the gluten averse, nut naysayers, and sugar shunners with a wide selection of diet-conscious concoctions. The Diesel Sundae appeases mature mouthbuds by dressing Guinness ice cream in an elegant cloak of coffee syrup and chocolate-whipped cream ($6), and the Oh Snap sundae inspires finger applause with a choir of sweet-cream ice cream, candied ginger, ginger syrup, and vanilla whipped cream shivering in perfect harmony ($6.50). Handmade sodas come in tasty flavors such as cherry, blueberry, and peach (starting at $3), and shakes such as the Toasted Marshmallow ($7) and Mayan Chocolate ($6) counter cold temperatures with distinctively warm flavors. Coffee and tea are also available, as well as free WiFi, Uno, and Trivial Pursuit, so that patrons can keep their brains from freezing as they snack.
- There’s nothing like a well run, impressive local establishment that serves an equally impressive product. With all of the unique flavors of ice cream available at this parlor it's only a matter of time before I return to try another. – Urban Tallahassee
