What You'll Get
Sushi, like the archival footage of Mark McGwire's birth, is best known for its raw quality. Get attached to your food with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of sushi and Asian fare at Ma Soba on Cambridge Street.
Ma Soba’s chefs meld meats in piquant sauces and oceanic fare both cooked and raw into an extensive menu. Delicate slivers of seafood in a sushi platter rest upon dollops of sticky rice like meaty chapeaus, entrancing taste buds with the rich taste of sea urchin ($6.95/two pieces) or tuna ($5.95/two pieces). Maki rolls such as the classic west coast california roll ($5.95) neatly combine rice, veggies, and protein in an easy-to-inhale package. The chefs at Ma Soba also craft a palatable array of Thai-, Chinese-, and Korean-infused entrees, such as the tofu and eggplant stew ($13.95), which arrives in an earthen Hainan pot, or the same kind of seafood pancake ($12.95) that Poseidon washes down with saltwater mimosas.
Ma Soba encapsulates its Asian fusion feasts in an urbane, light-filled atmosphere lined with luxurious stone floors and ornamental screen walls. Sleek, modern wooden furnishings support diners as they cast eyes adrift past the ceiling-high windows, watching the Beacon Hill district’s passing revelers, nighthawks, and bewigged John Adams impersonators. Parking at the nearby Cambridge Street garage costs $5 (not included in the value of this Groupon).

About Ma Soba
A banner printed with tiny white fish flutters above Ma Soba's sushi bar, where chefs in pert white hats tuck ribbons of fish atop rice and seaweed. In the kitchen, stovetops sizzle with Chinese, Korean, Thai, and other Asian dishes, such as bulgogi, tempura-battered seafood and vegetables, and entrees spiced with chili-and-ginger general tso's sauce. Wine and water goblets moor maroon tablecloths in the softly lit dining room, where potted orchids and bromeliads complement a Japanese screen painted with branches and cherry blossoms. Ma Soba also packs entrees into tidy containers for carryout and delivery orders to offices, homes, and tree houses.
