A wave of popular support bore Mamu Thai into existence. Emulating the noodle-frying tradition of his restaurateuring family in Bangkok, owner Siwat Thitiwatana turned to Kickstarter to get the initial concept of Mamu Thai rolling. First, he drove a red, blue, and yellow food truck covered in elephants, drawing inspiration from the noodle pilgrimage he took through his homeland to serve up pad thai, pad siew, kua gai, and khao soi.
In 2014, flush with the success of Thitiwatana's nomadic kitchen, his family decided to put down roots at a brick-and-mortar Astoria location. From the new restaurant and food truck, they continue to create noodles in addition to curries, rice dishes, and tender Thai barbecue entrees.
