Though laser tag began as a government program to prepare the citizenry for a robotic takeover, it was recast as a recreational game after officials confirmed that Terminator was just a movie. The snipers at Mars Pub and Laser Tag equip pseudo-soldiers with the gear needed to gently zap their opponents. During each 10-minute battle, up to 14 gamers swarm the 3,000-square-foot laser tag arena, which is enhanced by black lights, glow-in-the-dark paint, and a grinning cat mural that is both cute and distracting. In addition to wielding pretend weapons, soldiers are welcome to relieve cramped trigger fingers with cold ones while waiting for the next skirmish. The pub's drink list includes Guinness, Magic Hat, Pabst Blue Ribbon tall boys, and wine. Mars Pub and Laser Tag wages war Monday–Saturday, with nighttime hours extending as late as 2 a.m. to accommodate graveyard diggers in need of a postbreakfast adrenaline rush.
