A Chat with Metrolina Martial Arts
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
Accredited instructors with over 40 combined years of experience teaching martial arts. Ed is certified to teach jeet kune do to people aged 3 and younger; Bill holds a second degree in tae kwon do and a plethora of kickboxing experience; Matt has 12+ years of Brazilian jujitsu experience and an International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation–accredited black belt.
What's one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
Empty your cup; there's a lot of information out there, a lot of discussion on what art is best. But, as Bruce Lee said, "Empty your cup." With that in mind, prepare to sweat and build confidence as you kick fat's butt out the window. You'll learn real martial arts for self-defense or competition.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Wanting to provide a fun, safe, welcoming place to train jeet kune do, muay thai kickboxing, filipino kali, and Brazilian jiujitsu. These have helped our instructors become the people they are today; as such, we wish to share what we have learned and help others.
What do you love most about your job?
The face of a student when they get it—that light goes off and they smile as they understand the technique. Watching them sweat away their worries, the confidence I see and the slow changes that affect a person are extremely rewarding as the students accomplish goals and conquer dreams.
