What's one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
First time students should not be afraid to make mistakes! Making mistakes means that you are challenging yourself and pushing your limits. Remain focused and do not let frustration distract you from your goals!
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
Pro Skills Basketball was started to teach the game the way that we were taught. Making the game fun while also teaching difficult lessons was a challenge that we wanted to take on!
What do you love most about your job?
Seeing kids make a change and push through frustration, failure, disappointment is so rewarding. Watching young players learn what it takes to be successful on and off the court is something we believe will help them later in life.
For proof that Carolina Courts is serious about basketball and volleyball, consider this: a professional basketball court is 4,700 square feet, and a regulation volleyball court is roughly 1,500 square feet. Carolina Courts, on the other hand, dedicates 96,000 square feet to both sports. That number is split between the company's Indian Trail and Concord locations. At each address, a talented team of coaches teaches the fundamentals during leagues, camps, and training programs, such as the signature E365 basketball training program for students aged 8–18 or their PEAK volleyball academy. Although most of the training is geared for youngsters, teens, and extratall babies, Carolina Courts also offers leagues and open gyms for adults.
For a basketball player growing up in Charlotte, the pinnacle of sporting success probably includes playing on the court of the Time Warner Cable Arena. However, the home of the Hornets is accessible even before signing with a big college or surviving the NBA draft. Run by the motivated trainers and coaches, Hornets Hoops youth basketball clinics expose kids to professional-level basketball techniques during intensive sessions throughout the year. On game days or during holiday breaks, youth ages 7-16 work alongside Hornets Hoops staff to perfect their skills on the same court their idols use. Different clinics focus different skill sets including shooting, five-on-five teams, and advanced techniques. After learning how to play themselves, kids can watch the masters in action with a ticket to a home game provided for each participant.
In association with Myers Park Presbyterian Church, Myers Park Wellness Center invites people of all ages and backgrounds into its facility to work out their minds, bodies, and spirits. Exercisers looking to shed a few pounds or simply stay in shape can lift weights, shoot hoops on the basketball court, or sweat side-by-side with their peers during fitness classes that include Pilates, yoga, and spinning. Sessions with a personal trainer guide visitors toward their fitness goals, and massage therapy soothes their muscles after intense workouts. The wellness center also hosts plenty of activities for youngsters, including basketball clinics, golf lessons, and extreme-sports camps.
Designed to not just teach sports but also valuable life lessons in discipline, self-respect, and team work, Brown Athletic Division's coaches lead participants through one-on-one and group training sessions at their facility. Those who already have experience in basketball can do a personal assessment to assess skill level, address goals, and set a program for custom training. Camps and clinics involve a one- to four-day program that gives athletes the chance to participate in high-intensity training while refining skills, such as quickly tying shoes during time-outs.
