Founded in the early 1930`s Revolution Park Golf Course (originally named Bonnie Brae Golf Course) was designed by the Corps of Engineers as an 18 hole layout. The golf course was later condensed to 9 holes and modified once again in the late 1970`s as interstate I-77 was developed. Nestled in beautiful maples, pines, and hardwoods, Revolution Park GC has been donned "Charlotte`s only 9-hole Country Club"! The course averages nearly 32,000 rounds of public play per year and the layout is suitable for all types of players regardless of age, sex or handicap. Many local players call Revolution Park GC their "home course" and play on a regular basis.Revolution Park Golf course has endured many changes through the years. In the beginning, African Americans were banned from playing the course. But, in the early 1950`s, legal action prompted Revolution Park GC (named The Bonnie Brae Golf Course at that time) to open play to all races. The 12 gentleman filing the suit, on behalf of all minorities, were granted the right to play Revolution Park in 1957 through a Supreme Court Ruling.Revolution Park GC was later dedicated to 9 gentlemen, each of whom made significant impacts on the course over time. The 9 holes now commemorate each of these individuals and are marked with their names in granite. A sign on the first tee was constructed to honor the first African American to tee off after the legal judgment was handed down from the Supreme Court.

Harry L. Jones Sr. Golf Course was founded in 1984, with its first facility being the John Adams Tennis Center and then in 1985 came the addition of the softball and soccer complex. This just wasn`t enough for the 400-acre park project. The city landlords decided to add a golf course. The key to their final decision on a golf course was that there wasn`t anything else that could be built on a landfill.Architect Kidwell & Hurdzan Inc., an environmental conscientious architect company, was chosen to draw up the plans for the 7680-yard golf course. In 1987 Renaissance Park Golf Course was opened. After 8 years Harry L. Jones Sr. Golf Course went under the architect pencil one more time. In 1995 the golf course closed for renovation (A much needed face-lift). The decision was to make the course shorter and more player friendly for the public. After one full year of planning, Renaissance Park Golf Course reopened its doors in the year 1996. Now in 2002 Harry L. Jones Sr. Golf Course is one of Charlotte`s Premier Public Golfing Facilities.
Sunset Hills is a unique experience that dates back to America’s golfing roots. Many people learned to play the game on low cost, inexpensive and fun to play publically owned courses. Most of these facilities have either closed or experienced renovations that made them more difficult and expensive, neither of which appeals to most golfers. Sunset Hills offers two distinctly different courses that fill the need for an inexpensive, fun and non-intimidating round of golf. Each offers something for golfers of all skill levels, and does so for a price that is unmatched anywhere.
