The act of ivory tickling can cheer up a crowd, win over a love interest, or make a peaceful pachyderm feel significantly more like stampeding. Get your phalanges flowing with today's Groupon: for $42, you get one seat in the three-hour Just for Fun piano workshop with take-home audio CD and workbook (an $85 value) at Music for the Moment in the Oswego Heritage House. Choose from the following dates:
- Wednesday, June 15, 6:30 p.m.–9:30 p.m.
- Sunday, June 26, 1 p.m.–4 p.m.
- Sunday, July 10, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Saturday, July 30, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.
- Sunday, August 7, 1 p.m.–4 p.m.
In the Just for Fun piano workshops, key-strikers step away from the piano for demonstrative lectures on chord-centric playing techniques. Created for new players, students will learn to play chords by feel, much like touch-typing or finding ice-cream stashes during darkened midnight freezer raids. Each student receives a workbook to follow along during a three-hour demonstration from the instructor (a $60 value), and afterwards each student gets an instructional audio CD (a $25 value) for at-home practice of the day's lessons. The workshops are also meant to provide aspiring players with the confidence to stylize their favorite songs, improvise melodies, and attempt one-fingered renditions of "Chopsticks."
