Museums can unveil mysteries of the past often overlooked by history books, such as the secret behind Benjamin Franklin's x-ray bifocals, and that the extinction of the dinosaurs was brought about by their dependence on fossil fuels. Lift the veiled, bronto-exhaust curtain of history with today's Groupon to the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library, located in Cedar Rapids. The NCSML is accredited with the American Association of Museums, and is one of the nation’s leaders in the presentation and preservation of Czech and Slovak culture. The new permanent exhibit Rising Above: The Story of a People and the Flood examines the 2008 flood and its effects, tying into the history of the Czech people in Cedar Rapids and providing a cumulative look at the struggles and triumphs of residents in the Czech Village and New Bohemia neighborhoods. The museum is open Monday through Saturday from 9:30 a.m.–4:00 p.m.
