Writing skills can provide a valuable outlet for personal expression, as well as help to share important experiences with a broad audience. The NY Writers Coalition (NYWC) helps to empower writers in underserved communities by organizing creative-writing workshops and public readings across the city. Last year, NYWC served more than 1,000 writers with workshop opportunities.
The coalition's annual Write-A-Thon galvanizes writers with a daylong workshop devoted to perfecting their craft. The workshop is also a fundraiser to benefit other NYWC programming and the organization charges $150 for attendance. Write-A-Thon attendees will spend the day performing creative exercises, meeting fellow writers, and attending workshops and craft talks. Writers all across the city are invited to participate in the Write-A-Thon, including young people from underserved communities, people transitioning out of homelessness, war veterans, immigrants, and seniors. This year's Write-A-Thon will take place on Saturday, June 11 and the NYWC would like to sponsor attendance for at least three writers who would not otherwise be able to afford it.
Join G-Team and donate $10 to sponsor attendance at this year's Write-A-Thon for writers who could not otherwise afford to go. If G-Team members raise $450, the NY Writer's Coalition will be able to sponsor three people to take part in the Write-A-Thon. Each additional $150 raised will sponsor another writer.
