About Obba Sushi & More
Drawing inspiration from around the globe, Argentinian master chef Walter Zapata makes mouths water with a unique fusion of Latin and Japanese sushi. After immigrating to the US, Walter landed a gig working as a cook in an authentic Japanese eatery. As fate would have it, he fell in love with the ancient, meticulously crafted cuisine and began experimenting with techniques and flavors hailing from the Andes, North America, Mediterranean, and Asia-Pacific. After tasting such unique fusion, co-owner Tufic Akil forged a partnership with Walter and eventually opened Obba Sushi & More. It was so successful that he now has two locations: a Miami spot with water views and a Coral Gables location with more than 3,500 sq. ft. indoor party space and 1,300 sq. ft. of front patio.
But just because Chef Zapata crafts sushi full time doesn’t mean he forgot his own culinary heritage. In addition to the traditional spicy tuna rolls and Japanese teriyaki dishes, he infuses distinct Latin American flavors with many of his creations like the ceviche roll and popcorn lobster roll. If that's not enough, he's mastered other unique dishes such as sushi pizza, sushi sandwiches, and mouth-watering entrees like lemon seabass and salmon quinoa.
