Oohhs & Aahhs
For Oji Abbott, making great fried chicken isn't enough. He wants his chicken to be "the stuff of dreams." And it just might be, based on the dream list of clientele that's come through the doors at Oohhs & Aahhs—LeBron James, Jay-Z, Kevin Durant, and Angie Stone among them. Abbott, a native Washingtonian, has spent years crafting his trade, catering for local and federal government agencies before opening his soul-food restaurant in 2003. Featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, the eatery specializes in classic dishes such as lamb chops, beef short ribs, and shrimp 'n' grits, though the mac 'n' cheese has won awards by the likes of Washingtonian magazine for finally negotiating a treaty between two different parts of the food pyramid.
