Paintin' the Town Faux artistic director and lead instructor Susie Goldenberg teaches finish forgery techniques to do-it-yourselfers and professional decorators during classes. The Faux Basics class will be held Friday, April 29, and Saturday, May 14, and participating students can learn how to ape luxe substances, including marble and leather, using multiple faux-finish paint techniques.
Advanced antiquers can opt instead for more specialized seminars. The Crusted Surfaces class, held Tuesday, April 26, and Wednesday, May 11, teaches trainees how to layer Gesso wax to make new moldings look crumbly and old, like ancient Roman laser-tag courses. Faux Countertop Finishes sessions on Tuesday, April 19, or Friday, May 13, help DIYers make lowly laminate and Corian masquerade as granite, tumbled tile, and solid gold bricks. And on Monday, April 18, and Thursday, May 12, Cabinet Finishes classes will teach students how to update kitchen- and bathroom-cabinet surfaces.
All classes have a maximum of 20 students. Students are not required to bring materials, and in every class, each individual takes home a large sample board and instruction manual, plus delusions of grandeur that they can turn straw into gold.
