Before the invention of desserts, mankind had to make do with "nature's candy"—fermented cabbage, fruit the monkeys didn't want, and live, feather-covered Peeps. Celebrate man's triumph over nature and a whole lot more with today's Groupon: for $6, you get $12 worth of fresh gelato at Pazzo Gelato, located in Silver Lake. This Groupon is not valid toward gelato cakes.
The friendly family behind Pazzo Gelato churns out a luscious litany of flavorful frozen treats by fusing the freshest seasonal fruits and herbs from local growers. Frequent experimentation has led to the spawning of myriad gelato varieties (a cup is $3.95 for two flavors, $4.50 for three flavors, $5.50 for four flavors). Erase taste buds’ memories of dinner by mix-and-matching decadent and combinations of continuously-changing classics such as sea salt caramel, mocha, and milk chocolate with uncommon confectionary curio including the Madagascar vanilla bean, avocado, and toasted-almond fig. Spike the seasonal egg nog flavor with a parade of spirit-based lickables such as the Jack Daniels–tinged Mad Jack or the Grey Goose–instilled martini chocolate. Dedicated to healthy, mindful sweetsmithing, Pazzo produces gelato with organic ingredients whenever possible and doesn’t use high-fructose corn syrup or melted crayons. The sorbettos, which feature dairy-free and vegan chilly treats, also contain less sugar than their cloying colleagues. In addition to freezy tastes, Pazzo serves coffee and tea.
Pazzo Gelato was featured on Discovery Health's A Lyon in the Kitchen. Check out the video here. Pazzo Gelato was also mentioned in Bon Appetit magazine, Los Angeles magazine, and the Los Angeles Times. Nearly 300 Yelpers give it an average of four stars:
- This family-run spot in L.A.'s hip Silver Lake area turns farmers' market ingredients into fantastical flavors of gelato and sorbetto, such as Guinness and chèvre with fig. – Andrew Knowlton, Bon Appetit magazine
- Supremely textured gelati, cheery service, good prices, streetside tables, and flavors like chocolate-orange, curry-coconut, mascarpone-ginger, and European yogurt make us love this place. – M.D., Los Angeles magazine
Though they’ve garnered the praise of national publications such as Bon Appètit and Nylon Magazine, the chefs at Pazzo Gelato are all about the local community. Each morning, they frolic through the city’s farmer’s markets to find seasonal inspiration, using organic ingredients whenever possible and steering clear of high-fructose corn syrup. Patrons can mix-and-match decadent combinations such as Madagascar vanilla and sea salt caramel or pistachio and red velvet. Vegan sorbetti include flavors such as toasted coconut and dark chocolate orange. All cool creations can be scooped into the shop’s biodegradable cups and waffle cones, or gently lobbed into a cup of espresso and whipped cream for the shop’s signature pazzogato.
At the espresso bar, staffers pour aromatic cups of Intelligentsia coffee, loose-leaf tea, and drinking chocolate. The combination of cool and hot menu options makes the patio comfortable in summer, fall, and apocalyptic weather.
