What You'll Get
Sushi arose out of the highly formal food culture of ancient Japan, which required that diners enfold their meal in a tight hug before eating it. Roll rolls into a hungry belly with today's Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of sushi and drinks at SakeZake in Grayslake.
Chef Ahn Yung Jin of SakeZake unravels a rich menu of rice-bound bites of sea creatures, maintained at an invitingly cool temperature despite the restaurant's warm red- and yellow-hued décor. The namesake SakeZake roll ($15 à la carte) finds deep-fried spicy tuna snuggling with shrimp tempura and asparagus under a soy sheet. Score a cornucopia of undersea delights with the 21-piece sashimi combination ($29), or construct an edible tricycle of california, unagi, and spicy salmon rolls from the maki mono combo ($15). SakeZake's bar brims with top-shelf spirits, wine, and a martini menu.

About SakeZake Sushi & Rolls
SakeZake's fusion of ancient and contemporary tastes extends from the robust menu of specialty sushi rolls to the artfully minimalist dining-room decor. Executive Chef Ahn Yung Jin's classic nigiri shares menu space with specialty rolls that combine fresh fish with eye-catching ingredients such as tempura flakes, jalapeño, and diamond chips. Mock shoji screens and lacquered red chairs give the dining room the air of a modish teahouse, while the funky hourglass lamps keep things as fresh as the sushi-bar offerings. The lounge-like atmosphere is no accident, as SakeZake is open until 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights.
