American sushi is generally larger than its Japanese counterparts, joining cars, hats, and love-of-sports bloopers on the list of things that are bigger in America. Enjoy our plus-sized take on this delicate food with today’s Groupon for sushi and Japanese cuisine at Sakura Sushi. Choose between the following options:

• For $8, you get $16 worth of lunch cuisine served Monday–Saturday from noon–2:30 p.m.
• For $15, you get $30 worth of dinner cuisine served Monday–Thursday from 5 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Sakura Sushi’s artisan chefs construct memorable meals out of traditional Japanese tempura, grilled meats, and more than 30 nigiri and specialty-roll configurations. Bite into the Santamonica’s ($7.75) spicy deep-fried tuna or the Jazz’s ($12.95) albacore, avocado, and cucumbers autographed by Karl Malone. Grab one of the lunch menu’s bento-style repasts, quelling midday rumbles with a tempura-and-chicken-teriyaki combo ($8.45) or strips of marinated beef bulgogi ($8.95). Feasts continue at evening suppers, with guests chowing down on the Utah dinner box ($11.95), which includes chicken teriyaki, california-roll sushi, gyoza, and an edible replica of the Wasatch Mountains. Although not covered by this deal, Sakura Sushi is also open Sunday for dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Sakura Sushi

As they slice fresh fish and roll seaweed wraps around sticky rice, the sushi chefs greet diners from behind the sushi bar. Upholding the affable atmosphere, friendly wait staff dressed in navy and white kimono tops then seat guests at clothed tables or on the outdoor balcony. After perusing the menu, guests bite into vibrant pieces of red tuna and pink salmon sashimi, along with more creative rolls, such as the spicy-tuna-and-jalapeño Cancun roll, which arrives garnished with green cilantro leaves. Meanwhile, in the kitchen, chefs fry shrimp tempura and grill marinated beef bulgogi, which pair well with Kirin Ichiban beer, wine, or hot sake.
