Before photographs were invented, the only way to have your likeness reproduced was to sit motionless for hours while an artist expertly pressed Silly Putty onto your face. Learn how to capture images without holding your breath with today’s Groupon: for $49, you get one four-hour Focus Your Creative Vision photography workshop from Santagto Photography (a $275 value). Classes are held in paired sessions on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Great Face & Body and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center. Please call ahead to ensure class availability for your date of interest.
For each workshop, Valerie Santagto draws on her several decades of professional shutterbuggery for Vanity Fair, the New Mexico Tourism Department, and other prominent clients, as well as portraits of Kevin Costner and John Waters. During the initial two hours at Great Face & Body, Valerie will take beginners and advanced students alike step-by-step through principles such as camera settings, lighting and metering, lens-cap removal, and use of artistic flourishes. Armed with this new brain-stuffing, fledgling shooters are then released into the picturesque grounds of the National Hispanic Cultural Center for up to two hours of exploration, where they can mess with shutter speeds, experiment with composition, or capture images of lizards as they cocoon themselves and pupate into beautiful pterodactyls. Santagto workshop attendees will notice a significant uptick in the breath-snatching quality of their shots, be they landscapes, portraits, or snapshots of extraterrestrial tourists jumping.
