The Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run/Walk 5K
Folks all over the country strap on their jingle-belled shoes, secure their festive reindeer horns, and charge their red-nose headlights in preparation for The Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run. The 5K run/walk raises money for research in the fight against arthritis, a group of musculoskeletal disorders that affect young and old alike. To put a face on the condition and remind the world that arthritis can affect anyone, each race names an adult honoree and a youth honoree who share their stories on the event website. The Chicago 2014 event, for example, features Mariska Oberg, a recent eighth-grade grad whose 2005 diagnosis of polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis hasn’t prevented her from staying active in volleyball and track and field. The events also name a medical honoree to celebrate the physicians and researchers who continue to fight for treatments and cures.
