What You'll Get
Creativity can strike at any moment, whether you're near a canvas and brushes or beside a slumbering strongman and many rolls of toilet paper. Learn to recognize opportune moments with today's Groupon: for $40, you get two half-day summer-camp art classes at The Artist Within Studio School in Cypress (an $80 value). Summer-camp classes are for kindergarteners through 12th graders and are available June 6–August 27.
Thomas Cleveland harnesses 34 years of artistic experience, including time working with the U.S. Mint, Coca-Cola, and General Motors, when teaching his art summer camps. During the first of the 2.5-hour sessions in the 2,000-square-foot studio, students learn facts about art and artists and train their brains and appendages with an introduction to drawing. Participants watch step-by-step demos to gain information on professional art techniques before crafting their own magnum opus. Students choose their own subject matter to reconstruct with watercolor, tempera, pastels, the juice that oozes out of over-ripe plums, and colored pencils, all under the guidance of the master crafter. Campers finish their paintings during the second session. An individual art desk is provided for each summer-camp attendee, and classes are kept at 25 students or fewer to ensure more individualized attention.

About The Artist Within
"I believe art isn't just hanging on the walls—it is all around you in everyday life," says The Artist Within founder Thomas Cleveland. This affinity for art was established when Cleveland was only 5, and it has grown as he has garnered various awards and done commissioned work for Nickelodeon and Coca-Cola. Cleveland helps students develop their own artistic style as they learn pastel-painting techniques in summer camp or use mixed media to illustrate their disdain for yard work.
