Without flexibility and balance, kids would never be useful for retrieving far-flung Frisbees and tax returns from the roof. Refine your child's flexibility with today's Groupon to The Champion Factory in North Andover. Choose between the following options:
- For $29, you get one month of gymnastic classes (a $79 value).
- For $80, you get one week of summer camp (a $165 value).
Owned by former gymnasts and cheerleaders Brian and Teena Veth, The Champion Factory teaches tiny tumblers gymnastic fundamentals in noncompetitive camps and classes. Age-appropriate classes will teach young tumblers (ages 18 months–16 years) to flip and flex, while increasing coordination and the likelihood of a professional limbo career. The generally 45- to 60-minute classes range from jumps and rolls to advanced tumbling, circus skills, and work on the bars, balance beam, and trampoline. Crafty cartwheelers will enjoy Gym Craft (ages 3–6), a class that infuses 45 minutes of gymnastics with an additional 45-minute arts-and-crafts project, and the Flip Flop Shop trains cheerleaders in cheer-specific skills, such as back handsprings and firing up the crowd sans blowtorch. Check out the online schedule to choose the most appropriate class and time for children.
Kids aged 3–9 who yearn for full-time flippage can find it Monday–Friday at a weeklong summer-camp session. As little ones develop strength and flexibility from 9 a.m. until noon, parents will develop a love for mornings without strobe-light cartoons and sugarcoated cereal fights. The Champion Factory's themed sessions, such as Halloween Week, allow young gymnasts to perfect skills while dressed as a monster, superhero, or presidential candidate. Campers should wear comfortable clothing and bring a non-peanut-related snack and drink for daily snack time. Classes and camps are held in a 3,500-square-foot gym filled with vibrant colors, fun wall murals, and gymnastics equipment.
The Champion Factory
Owners Brian and Teena Veth call on their skills as former gymnasts and cheerleaders as well as current parents to safely introduce kids to the world of gymnastics and circus arts. Their energetic instructors help children to learn social and listening skills while teaching them coordination, strength, and flexibility. Instructors encourage students to move at their own pace while bouncing atop trampolines, deftly crossing balance beams, and somersaulting across cushy floor mats. Parents look on from an open seating area, offering words of encouragement or quotes on spiritual balance from Confucius.
Fall, winter, and spring classes are organized by age group and often feature seasonally themed lesson plans. In addition to summer camps, where kids stay busy with creative games and activities, the center also hosts birthday parties and special events.
