Such a fun and beautiful experience. I ended up getting blisters because of my poor shoe choice and our guide bandaged me up no problem. The waterfalls are spectacular, and the forest itself is beautiful too. Our guide also made sure to show us the little nooks hidden in small caves and even took us to a ridge that jutted out in the middle of the waterfall. Using the ropes was thrilling too.

My first trip was cancelled due to chance of rain in the forecast. I rescheduled and that trip has also been cancelled for the same reason. I understand they want perfect conditions but its winter i dont expect perfect conditions. I booked a ice hike and ice won't last much longer and cant afford to cancel every weekend. If you are thinkimg about booking this trip i would be hesitant to do it more than a week in advance and you know the weather is going to be perfect.

Excellent experience. Our guides, Joe and Cory, were very knowledgeable, patient, and communicated well with their guests. Equipment provided (helmets, ice axes, crampons, climbing harness, carabiners, and webbing) was of good quality, and well-maintained. Clear instructions on how to get the gear on and properly fitted. Good focus on safety, and making sure everyone's personal equipment (boots, outerwear, packs) was good to go. Once on the trail, Joe and Cory kept everyone informed about any hazards, and gave succinct, understandable directions on how to avoid those hazards. They clearly demonstrated the techniques (proper axe carry/ use, kicking/ clearing steps, clipping on/ off safety ropes) required to move safely through the changing terrain. As the hike went on, Joe and Cory continued checked to make sure that everyone was having a good hike, and wasn't unnecessarily over-exerting themselves. They had a good location for our lunch stop, and everyone was able to comfortably get off their feet, while the guides prepared the hot chocolate. I was one of a group of seven whitewater river guides, on the Full-Day hike. It was interesting, and educational, for all of us to experience a "guided outdoor adventure" from the perspective of a guest vs that of a guide. [FULL DISCLOSURE: VtS runs whitewater rafting trips through the company for whom we guide. However, trust me, if the VtS didn't do a good job, we'd be merciless in our reviews (just like any other guests).]

About Valley to Summit

When they're ready to trade in cubicle walls for mossy forests, prospective adventurers call on Valley to Summit. Then, escorted by experienced and certified guides, they dive boot- or snowshoe-first into the wilderness. Multi- and single-day treks might send participants scrambling up the side of a mountain, hiking the Appalachian Trail, backpacking through Shenandoah National Park, or rafting down the Hudson River. Still other trips provide one-of-a-kind experiences—one day-long outing, for instance, combines fireside craft brew tasting with horseback rides atop Clydesdales. Aerial yoga retreats invite attendees to spin and flap their wings amid mountainous landscapes, and wolf-watching excursions provide a glimpse of rarely-seen wildlife. Clients can even commission private, customized adventures.

But whether outdoor enthusiasts are rappelling down a mountain or floating atop a paddleboard, they are steered by Valley to Summit's core values and priorities. All participants are encouraged to leave their cell phones and other electronics at home, to enhance their interaction with nature with their eyes, ears, and noses instead of their "Sense This!" app. And anything groups do bring along must be packed out: Valley to Summit is partnered with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics, an organization dedicated to the respectful enjoyment of the great not-indoors.
