This course is eight hours long, including seven hours of classroom training and one hour of range time. The program includes lunch, use of various firearms, ammunition, eye and ear protection, targets, and course materials such as the NRA’s The Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook. After completion of the course, students receive NRA Basic Pistol credentials, which serves as the instruction needed to submit an application for the Virginia Concealed Carry permit.

Meet the Instructor
Burx Norrod is an NRA-certified pistol instructor and range safety officer. Before training others in the use of firearms, Mr. Norrod grew up practicing shooting sports and served in the United States Marine Corps.
What He Teaches
Mr. Norrod specializes in NRA First Steps courses and NRA Basic Pistol courses. Some of the things novice shooters learn include how to clean a firearm, how to safely use a firearm, and how to improve marksmanship. Mr. Norrod also teaches continuing education firearms courses for more experienced people who want to hone their shooting skills.
Virginia Pistol Training's students are more than welcome to bring their own firearms to class. The instructor has several handguns available for use as well, such as a Sig P226, a Ruger SR22 and a Glock 19 Gen4 nine-millimeter pistol.
