WomanCraft, a social enterprise program of Heartland Alliance, helps Chicago-area woman impacted by a criminal record, a lack of education, or other obstacles on the way to employment achieve economic self-sufficiency and develop work skills through an innovative job-training program.
Each woman enrolled in the program is trained as an artisan papermaker, hand-crafting invitations, stationery, and notecards from recycled office paper and reclaimed flower petals. During their WomanCraft experience, participants sharpen their job-interviewing skills, build a resume and cover letter, and gain up-to-date employment references for future career opportunities.
Join G-Team to fund at least one week of programming for a WomanCraft artisan. It costs $192 to provide services to each artisan for one week. Giving levels of $5, $10, or $25 are available. G-Team members who donate $25 or more will receive a set of plantable wildflower seed notecards (an $18 value, with shipping included), made out of 100% recycled paper. Each card is embedded with flax, cornflower, echinacea, coreopsis, larkspur, and Black-Eyed Susan seeds. The set contains 10 plantable sheets, 10 recycled brown bag envelopes, and a planting description.
All community members are invited to do some holiday shopping and see the artisans conduct live papermaking demonstrations during WomanCraft’s annual Open House and Studio Sale, taking place on Friday, Dec. 10 from noon–5 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 11 from 9:30 a.m.–3 p.m. at the WomanCraft studio, located at 4115 W. Ogden Ave in Chicago.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
