The English language contains about 150 prepositions, several thousand verbs, and an infinite number of nouns that only canines can hear. Develop your dog-whispering dictionary with today's Groupon: for $150, you get a three-session advanced writing workshop from WordSmitten Media (a $300 value). Beginning in June, the two-hour workshop meets at the Centre Club on the fourth Wednesday of each month. WordSmitten Media unites Tampa Bay–area scribes with monthly workshops that provide the perfect environment for sharing work, improving technique, and discussing the literary business. Course instructor Kate Sullivan (and host of WLSS 930 AM Radio's About the Books broadcast) takes pride in guiding aspiring writers through their favorite genre, kick-starting creative processes and casting out pearls of wisdom pertaining to the publishing world. The advanced writing workshops focus on finalizing a manuscript and preparing it for widespread publication. Insight from Sullivan and seasoned classmates will help you transform a rough transcript scrawled on miles of unrolled toilet paper into a finished novel with crisp dialogue, character development, and structure. Participants will also learn strategies for finding and wooing literary agents, crafting concise query letters, and navigating the proposal process.
All students must schedule an over-the-phone, email or in-person assessment with WordSmitten before enrolling in a specific class to determine placement. Students testing below "advanced" levels will be permitted to take lower-level classes at no extra cost.
