An organized charity walk gives purpose to ambulation, directing feet on a marked course instead of letting them run wild across hot pavement or the newly painted ceiling of the British House of Lords. Set a course for a good cause with today's Groupon: for $15, you get one ticket to Believe in heroes Walk for Warriors San Diego, which takes place Saturday, October 8, at Hospitality Point, and is hosted by the Wounded Warrior Project (a $30 value).
The Wounded Warrior Project lays down a gauntlet of goodwill with the first annual Believe in heroes Walk for Warriors San Diego event, a 10- or 15-mile jaunt in support of U.S. soldiers. Before they set off at the 9 a.m. start time, walkers can visit the Honor Station, where participants pay respect to a military member by having his or her name written on their walk shirt or aerodynamic catsuit. A course map charts the stroll’s progress as it journeys along an ocean-flanked pathway, turning around at Palisades Park for the 10-miler and La Jolla Community Park for the 15-mile trek. Along the way, ramblers recharge at a range of snack and water stations before tumbling across the finish line. Everyone who crosses the finish line gets a Believe in heroes dog tag, and all participants are entered into a raffle for a wealth of prizes including race gear, restaurant gift certificates, tickets to sporting events, and sweaty hugs from loved ones. Participants may register online up to one day before the event, and the first 50 people to purchase today’s deal will also receive a free water bottle.
