Better than other Choice properties in ‘the city’ The Clarion Hotel, in Abbotsford is better than most choice properties we stayed at in the lower mainland recently Check in process was quick and easy, parking is a little interesting as some of the parking is under building. The hotel is also a conference center so sometimes areas of the parking lot can fill in quickly if there’s a conference going on. Room was clean and comfortable, no major issues to report. The property overall appears to be well maintained, and is right off the highway, but you couldn’t hear it at all from the room. The facility has an on-site restaurant, and you get a discount on meals during your stay, that being said, there is no breakfast included, which is a downside as other Clarion properties we’ve stayed at have had great breakfasts. Overall a good day nothing remarkable, but nothing bad either, but definitely better overall than other Choice properties further west

Dirty room upon check in Stayed here on way through to vancouver. Checked in and hotel was OK. Got to room, but there was a case of beer in there and counter tops not wiped down. Went to front desk and clerk was embarrassed and accommodating, putting us in a new room. Was hard to be comfortable though, as couldnt really trust the cleanliness of the room/hotel. Unsure if we'd stay here again.

Noisy on the freeway side of the hotel This hotel is very easy to access from Hwy 1 if you are heading into or out of Vancouver. We stayed two nights. I would give it a 4 1/2 if it weren't for our experience with noise. If our request to change rooms had not been granted, I would have given it a 3, but the request was granted, so it gets a 4. For more explanation, see below. This hotel is right beside the freeway into Vancouver (Hwy 1). Initially we were booked in an accessible room on the highway side of the hotel. We are heavy sleepers and usually can sleep through anything, but we met our match in this rooml! We lived beside Hwy 97 for 30 years and slept with the windows open, so we didn’t think the highway noise would bother us here, but were we wrong!! This was so much worse!!! I actually downloaded a noise level app to measure the noise level. It was 50 dB with the windows closed and 60 dB with the windows open. The traffic made pretty steady white noise at that level all night! It was also raining for most of the night and highway traffic is noisier when the road is wet. In the morning we asked to move to a room on the back side of the hotel for our second night. Our request was granted (yay!!) and we were able to move right away, but the 2nd room cost us $10 more. Initially they said it would be $20 more, but in the end the manager approved a difference of $10. I was told that the more expensive rate was because there were two beds in the room instead of one, but I would guess that the rooms on the quiet side of the hotel are probably more expensive. It is definitely worth a few dollars more if you value the quality of your sleep. I also found out that all the accessible rooms are on the highway side of the hotel, so if you book an accessible room, be prepared to be sleeping next to the noisy freeway. The noise level in the second room was about 30 dB with the windows closed, slightly louder with them open. If you are not familiar with the noise rating scale, every 10 dB is 10 times louder. My husband has stayed at this hotel before and didn't notice a problem with the highway noise, but he has always stayed on the back side of the hotel away from the highway. The staff did say that they usually try to book guests on the back side if they can. To be sure you get a quiet room, I would strongly recommend requesting a room on the side that is not next to the highway. Everything else about this hotel was very good. It used to be a Ramada and was with another chain before that, so it is not a new building, but was in good shape. Some parts looked tired, but those parts were in the middle of being renovated. The room that was not an accessible room still had enough space for my husband to move around easily with his walker. The accessible room had a shower instead of a bathtub. Attached to the hotel there is a White Spot restaurant that can be entered from outside or accessed from the end of the hallway on the 2nd floor. There are ramps at both restaurant entrances so stairs can be avoided. Your room key gives you a 10% discount for any meal or 25% discount for breakfast (during certain breakfast hours), but you may need to remind your server that you are staying in the hotel when they bring your bill. The prices at White Spot are not cheap ($20-$30 each for dinner, $15-$20 each for breakfast), but the food is very good.

Bad Management Team This hotel has the worst customer service. I called back in March to make reservations for my daughters volleyball team. Front desk told me I had to speak with group sales but they held one room for me while I talked to group sales about getting a block set aside. I called group sales 3 times over a week span. I then started calling the general manager, leaving messages, trying to get ahold of anyone to discuss a group booking. After two weeks, I called the front desk to just reserve some rooms for the team at regular price. They then informed me they were sold out of all rooms for that weekend. I asked they cancel my reservation then as we wanted to stay together as a team. I was told it was cancelled. The weekend of the tournament, I saw on my credit card I was charged a nights rate for not cancelling. I called front desk (who was friendly) and said I had to speak with the guest service manager who would be in on Monday. I left a voicemail for her, no response Monday. Called Tuesday morning, no response. Called again this morning, got voicemail again. I notice just now they did refund the nights say, but seriously, where is the phone call to tell me they did that, or the apology? This hotel needs a lesson in customer service and returning phone calls.

Modern and Comfortable Stayed at the property for one night at the start of a road trip. The hotel is easily accessible from the highway. Check-in was efficient and friendly and there is ample parking in front of the hotel. We were provided with a king room on the third floor. The room was spacious, well appointed, very clean and comfortable. The bedding and pillows were high quality and soft. The room had a large fridge and ample storage space. We had dinner in the adjacent White Spot which was good. This hotel is perfect for a stop over, I would stay here again!
